Henri Coandă Airport, in top three European airports with the highest air traffic growth in the first quarter


Henri Coandă International Airport was ranked third among European airports which have registered the greatest increase in air traffic in the first quarter of 2015, in the category of airports that have between 5 and 10 million passengers by Airports Council International-Europe.

 

The first three places in this category were occupied by Milan Orio al Serio, Porto and Henri Coandă airports, followed by Heraklion and Berlin Schonefeld airports.

 

Henri Coandă Airport also has been ranked by Airports Council International-Europe among European airports that have experienced the greatest increase in air traffic in March, occupying the fourth place in the 5 - 10 million passengers category.

 

In the first quarter of 2015, in the category of airports with over 25 million passengers, the ranking is: Madrid, Rome Fiumicino and London Gatwick, Barcelona, Istanbul Ataturk and Copenhagen. In the category of 10 to 25 million passengers, the first places were occupied by Athens airports, London Stansted, Dublin, Lisbon and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen and at category under 5 million passengers, the ranking is Chania (Greece), Zadar (Croatia), Thessaloniki (Greece), Shannon (Ireland), Santorini (Greece).

 

Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport recorded, in the first quarter of 2015, a record air traffic of 1,808,332 passengers and 21,532 aircraft movements (landings and takeoffs). Compared to last year’s same period, the number of passengers who transited AIHCB the first three months of 2015 grew by 15.5%. Passengers’ evolution number on the two airports of Bucharest Airports National Company significantly surpasses the general trend of 5.2% recorded in Europe.

 

Henri Coanda Airport also registered an increase in the number of aircraft movements, surpassing also in this respect the European trend, which reached 1.6%. During the first three months of 2015, the number of aircraft movements increased by 12.6% at AIHCB compared to last year’s same period.

 

31 airlines are currently operating on Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport, carrying passengers to 70 destinations. Two new airlines started operating on Henri Coandă Airport in 2014: Ryanair and Air Baltic.
