Henri Coanda International Airport – once again in the top of the European airports with highest air traffic growth

Henri Coanda International Airport ranks fourth among the European airports which have shown the best air traffic growth in May 2016, as announced by Airports Council International-Europe, for the category of airports that have between 5 and 10 million passengers.

The first four places in this group were taken by Berlin Schoenefeld Airport, Larnaca (Cyprus), Ibiza (Spain), and the fifth place being occupied by Porto Airport.

During January-March, the top of airports with more than 25 million passengers per year is: Barcelona El Prat, Dublin, Copenhagen, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen and Amsterdam. The 10 to 25 million passengers/year category ranks Gran Canaria (Spain), Bonn Cologne, Budapest, Tel Aviv and Malaga, whereas the category under 5 million passengers per year displays: Oradea, Palanga (Lithuania), Harkov (Ukraine), Ohrid (Macedonia) and Burgas (Bulgaria).

Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport recorded in May 2016 935.940 passengers and 9.204 aircraft movements (landings and take-offs). As compared to last year’s same month, the number of passengers who transited AIHCB in May 2016 increased by 18.9%. The evolution of the passengers’ number on Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport significantly exceeds the general European trend of 3.6%.

Furthermore, the number of aircraft movements increased on Henri Coanda International Airport, going beyond the European trend, which reached 3.1%. Thus, in May 2016, the number of aircraft movements increased by 11.5% as compared to the same time last year.

Bucharest Airports National Company commenced functioning on February the 5th, 2010, ensuring the operational coordination and the management of the two airports in Bucharest. The company was set up following the merger of the two companies managing at that time Bucharest’s airports: Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport and Bucharest-Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport.
