Bucharest Airports National Company: three times higher profit in the first quarter and passenger traffic growth

For the first three months of 2014, Bucharest Airports National Company (BANC) has recorded an increase of nearly 7% of revenue compared to the same period of 2013. The increase was primarily due to operating income, sustained by the traffic growth on the company’s airports. The effective management of costs has led to recording, in the first three months, a gross profit of approximately 21.5 million, 2.7 times higher than that of the first quarter of 2013.

In the first quarter of 2014 on Henri Coandă International Airport and Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, the air traffic has exceeded 1.5 million passengers, reaching a record of  1,566,992 passengers, 4.5% more than the same period of 2013, thus creating the prerequisites of reaching 8 million passengers throughout 2014.

Moreover, contrary to the trend recorded on most major European airports, an increase in the number of aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings) was reached for the first time in recent years. Thus, in March 2014, the number of aircraft movements was 7,643, about 1.8% higher than the same month of 2013.

These results are the direct effects of BANC’s sustained efforts to attract new airlines, expand the number of routes operated from Bucharest and increase operating frequencies on existing routes.

In 2013, the two airports of Bucharest - Henri Coandă International Airport and Aurel Vlaicu International Airport – were transited by 7,649,503 passengers, the number of aircraft movements amounting to 95.984.
