Henri Coandă Airport, in top 5 European airports with the greatest increase in air traffic in 2014

Henri Coandă International Airport was ranked fourth by Airports Council International-Europe in Europe's top airports that recorded the largest increase in air traffic in 2014, in the category of airports that had between 5 and 10 million passengers.

The first three places in this category were occupied by the Basel, Lanzarote (Canary Islands) and Naples airports, fifth place being taken by Porto. In the category of airports with more than 25 million passengers, we have the following ranking: Istanbul, Moscow Sheremetyevo, London Gatwick, Domodedovo Moscow and Barcelona. In the category of 10 to 25 million passengers, the top ranked airport was Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen, being followed by Athens, Brussels, Lisbon and London Stansted and, at the category of under 5 million passengers, the ranking is: Chişinău, Santorini, Belgrade, Mikonos and Maribor.

In 2014, on the two airports of Bucharest - Henri Coandă International Airport (Otopeni Airport) and Bucharest Baneasa-Aurel Vlaicu International Airport (AIBB AV), was recorded a number of 8,321,858 passengers and 102,048 aircraft movements (landings and take-offs). From this total, Henri Coandă Airport recorded 8,317,168 passengers and 91,788 aircraft movements.

Compared to 2013, the number of passengers who transited the airports of Bucharest in 2014 registered a relevant increase of 8.8%.

The evolution of passenger’s number on Bucharest Airports National Company’s two airports exceeds the European general trend of 4.9%. In addition, the capital’s airports have recorded a substantial increase in the number of aircraft movements, outrunning the European trend in this chapter. Last year, the number of aircraft movements at Bucharest’s airports increased by 6.32% compared to last year’s same period.

Last year, 83% of Henri Coandă Airport’s passengers had as origin or destination EU countries airports.

Henri Coandă International Airport currently operates 31 airlines carrying passengers to 70 destinations. In 2014, two new airlines, Ryanair and Air Baltic, began to operate on AIHCB.
